I need some guidance

So I teach Spanish, and the new thing now in classrooms is podcasting. My 10th graders (who are the most aweome class ever!) think this is an excellent idea and why aren't we doing it?!

Well, because I'm clueless, that's why.

Any advice from you tech-heads out there would be greatly appreciated. I should add, I don't own an i-pod but I do own an mp3 player, which I realize is a different format.

What is podcasting? Podcasting is the online (on the Internet) distribution of audio or video files, like radio broadcastings and music videos, to listen to on mobile devices and computers. It is possible to download free podcasts online to listen to on your mobile device but the big difference between radio on demand and a podcast broadcasting is the possibility of an automatic feed to your mobile device or computer. The best podcasts are usually the ones that you can subscribe to, after which you receive new content that is automatically delivered to your device without you having to do anything to get it.

Vicki, If you decide to subscribe to pod casting, make sure your device has large storage(2-4gb) and a fast processor. Downloading podcast files are like downloading movies to your PC. Another example, would be live radio. You can hook up to a yahoo radio station with your desktop, but not necessarily with a Ipod, because an IPOD needs a different format because it does not utilize Windows etc...
Conclusively, if you give me your goal I could probably provide the hardware selection recommendations.

Thanks guys! Robb, I would be using the school district's server, not my own, so I don't think storage would be a problem. I know how to download stuff. I'm interested in producing my own podcasts for students to download.

Alternatively I could arrive online chat between my students and you two - because your Spanish is excelente! :-)

OHLA !! My 8 year old daughter already speaks spanish. They teach them early in our school district.

If you are creating your own, I have to verify, but there are websites where you can subscribe and house your videos without managing your own site. The would be responsible for formatting video in the correct format to work on mobile devices. Be back soon with more info !!!

www.streamload.com !!!

This site gives yo 4 hours of free podcast space.

Does your school have an Apple PC with OS 9 or X? If so, they have a built in module that allows yo to create a podcast server.

Robb, I know you took German, but the word is HOLA, not Ohla (but the H is silent). Wow! I'm still laughing at OHLA!

Robb, from the words forever burned into my memory from Mrs. Fulton to you, "Robb, go back to sleep." - Just go back to looking for the face in the coffee beans.

Whatever Freeman!!! You knew what I meant!!!
That's too funny. Ms. fulton had it out for me ever since I made fun of her legs.
