State of the REUNION Address

The pic is one of me contemplating the reunion situation, what I am going to cover in my period 3 honors class, when do I have to order oil before the tank gets empty, what should I wear to school tomorrow, what should I make for dinner, and six other miscellaneous things on my long TO DO list:

Here's what's up.
I filled out RFP's (Request for Proposal) for the Holiday Inn on 512 (the one Marhefka works at), the place next to it Hampton Inn Suites, and another, I think the new one on Airport Road. When they get back to me, I will let everyone know.
Yes Kim, I will work on the group room rate. The date I asked for was October 7th, 2006. It is a Saturday and that allows people to not have to come straight into town and go directly to a reunion (unless they do that on Saturday).

Thanks for the update Mr.Freeman. Hopefully the October date will work out.

Steve, what time would we have a room reserved for?

No idea, right now I am just trying to lock in a date. I put down 7:00 for a POSSIBLE starting time.
What do you think?

Longe - Let's plan that golf outing we talked about. Do you want me to look into some details with Willowbrook?

Steve,

Is the intent still to have two parts, PM picnic (family), and then Evening (Adult only). If so, the later start time should be good. If it's only an evening event (and open to family) - I'd suggest moving it up to 5 or 6.

If the two part approach is still the same, I'm assuming we'll look at Catty Playground 1st. I would also suggest N. Catty as a back-up - They have some cool stuff for kids.

Rusty - You have to go out golfing in the morning with us....it doesn't matter if your good or not. A couple of six packs to start the festivities while trying to put a little white ball in a hole can only lead to some embarrissing moments.

I think if the official reunion is on a Saturday night, then we can plan additional 'unofficial' events (volunteers would be needed). I'm sure if class funds allow, something could be applied to a picnic. Ideas suggested have been:

Friday night hangout, maybe hosted at someone's house, maybe some poker playing.

Saturday morning golf event (Randy).

Saturday picnic, probably around lunchtime to be able to bring the kids and meet the family. Probably bring your your own food, drink.

Randy, I'd vote for Willowbrook. I haven't been there since it was 9 holes. Can you tell me about it?

randyg said...

What do you want to know Dave? It's a nice 18 holes now. Some challenging stuff on the front 9. Depending on how many players we have we could make it a "best ball" type tournament. Have a few gag gifts for prizes. Just play to have a good time.

Randy,

I suck...but sounds like fun! I used to go sledding on the 4th Fairway (Huge Hill!!) all the time -and even golfed it a few times. I vote for "closest to Schubert's House" (vs. to the pin) on old Hole #7!!

Lets talk Golf- I have a connection at Whitetail Golf. I set up quite a few outings there, over the past few years. Let me know if you want me to run with it.

Robb - I was only thinking of Willow Brook because it's in town and would be close by to a picnic activity but at the same time I would be up to playing anywhere. Lets look at both places and compare what the better deal is.

Yo Molchan! You finally figured out the keyboard!

Rockets -that was the other one! Yeah -that was fun....kind of like an early version of "beavis & butthead" (you pick one -I was the other.) We could have taken that places...

It really doesn't matter to me where we play. There are certainly a lot of courses nicer than Willowbrook, but Willowbrook is closer. I also have some connections at Whitetail. Cousin's Robin and Wendy live right off the 8th hole.

I have never played golf and I have only the slightest idea how to play poker by doing one of those hand-held games.

I wouldn't mind possibly meeting at the Blue Monkey Friday night....

steve.....what happened to the Blue Monkey and picnic idea. Were they booked. That might be better since alot of people will be staying in town and drinking. I am begining to get the more formal feel and most people didn't seem to like that idea.

MJ
Looking like evening (adults only)- but very casual event! Nothing formal at all, most likely not even a dinner- only appetizers and drinks. With our small class, it is difficult to do 2 events in one day. Our fear is that it would split the group and some would do picnic and others would do only evening event. Now- keep in mind- if anyone wants to get together for picnic/golf/poker or whatever- that could be done in smaller groups before the official reunion takes place. Sounds like a bunch of people are already doing that.

sounds great....is the Blue Monkey still an option???

Unknown said...

I'm lovin' the Blue monkey - still an option..........

personally i don't care where it ends up, but i know that one reason some folks find the hotel thing appealing is the fact that we can get a couple ajoining rooms and have our own afterhours-everybodywelcome-gettogether...

but whatevs, the Blue Monkey has a lot of merit as well.

randyg said...

Can we narrow it down to 2-3 options and do an on line poll? I know that not everyone has access to the internet but the majority of us are here. I think the key is now if we are going to go the hotel route is to secure a date. How many people will be coming in from out of town and need a place to stay should be the issue.

pauko27 said...

I know we have a general idea now of a day and location, but it doesn't appear anything is set in stone yet.

Steve, how about posting a new topic ONLY to ask people which date works best (give the options)? Or have Matt do a poll?

I would rather choose a day that the most people could attend and deal with the location after.

The RFP's that I sent out were for 10/7/06. That was the date I thought people wanted.
I talked to a guy from the Lehigh Valley Vacation Bureau and he is "bidding" out our reunion for the 7th of October (or a Saturday night close to that). When I get the info. from the competing venues, I will let everyone know what is available and how much and all that happy BS.

Unknown said...

Steve- I think you're right about the 10/7. If you are planning music, let me know because I have a friend who would DJ for a few pints of beer.

October 7th is the date we are shooting for. Too many people were unable to do summer and Labor Day weekend.
