Lincoln Memories - Part 2

Now that we’ve opened the Lincoln Memories Vault

Here are some more tidbits I remember about Lincoln:

21 – Frank O. crying in Breon’s class because he failed a test and Robb P. laughing even though he got a grade much lower.
22 – Kim K. getting in trouble in Mrs. DeHaven’s class for pulling the chair out from unde Colin H. (we got a lecture on the possibilities of broken necks, paralysis, wheel chair usage, etc.,.)
23 – The first dance we were aloud to attend in 7th grade. I believe Eddie Brushak and Bobby Almazan were the DJs (correct if I am wrong)
24 – 5th grade gym with Mr. Hawrylo. Guys, to you remember “Feet on the line. At ease”.
25 – wearing the gym uniform (brown and white)
26 – any time the divider opened for coed gym – mat kickball (where you could stay on the mat and not have to move from base to base)
27 – team handball (Mike Muller was a pro)
28 – dittos (we still have an antique ditto machine in our copy room at school)
29 – the way we would get Ms. Kornfiend (Cake Face) to blow her gaskets, almost on a daily basis.

30 – the way Cake Face would “stab” your forearm with her dagger nails. I wonder if they were real or press-ons (I could never get passed the pounds of make-up)
31 – Home Ec – I made the van pillow (Mare noted pillows in another post) – making crepes and pancakes – counting those soup labels – sewing in general (and learning to iron)
32 – metal shop and the hanger and tuna lid flowers – when you would weld them, you could smell the food that was kept in the can
33 – The Spanish market in Ms. Costello’s class – I still have the bottle with the masking tape and picture on it that Robb P. made
34 – Getting “cut off” in lunch because the person you wanted to sit by sat in the last seat of the previous row – that blew big time
35 – Movies in Bell’s/Freeman’s room with the divider removed – I remember Johnny Tremaine and 20,000 Leagues Below the Sea
36 – stopping at the corner store and getting your illegal stash of candy for the day – a buck would go a long way
37 – Those ungodly orange sodium lights they put in (I think they are still using them)
38 – Watching a squirrel get fried on the electric wires outside of Semmel’s class – it blew out the transformer and we lost power
39 – taking notes during movies for Mr. Buss (take as many notes as you could, it did not matter if they made any sense – just quantity, no need for quality)
40 – Hanging out at the North Catty Playground with Randy G. and the BMX Hoodlums – me and my YELLOW Huffy
More soon!

I could not remember Vassa's name, that is why I did not put it in my post.
Deanna - how've you been? It doesn't seem to be 20 years since high school.

hi deanna, hi steve.

steve, you are proving your leadership skills. nice job on starting the nostalgia pipeline.

Deanna - Hello, how are you? Weren't you in Ms. Varkonyi's class in 5th grade? It would have been 5-5. I always wanted her hair do.

Steve - great list. I would never have remembered this stuff had you not helped. For as many times as Frank O has made this blog, he should be here too.

Jude- left you another message...sorry to have missed ya. When did your LIVE BAIT jacket enter the picture? Wait, I hope that's what it said.

mare - where's this live bait coming from? is there another ugly picture posted somewhere?

Didn't mean to scare you. No, you were talking about stenciling on your jacket in another blog....started me thinking about the jacket and didn't Joanne's mom give you a hard time on that name?

Mare said...

Wasn't Joanne's mom our bus driver for basketball or something?

Steve, where do you come up with these things? It is amazing how much you remember. Speaking of Frank O, does anyone know what happened to him? Was he in HS with us at all or did he attend a private school the entire time?

Mare said...

Frank went to Moravian when we went to HS

Mare said...

I lost track of him as well, perhaps someone out there knows.

i have this phone number for Frank O. 50/50 on whether it is current, feel free to call. 484.241.0985. found it on a soccer site.

Frank's parent's still live in the same house in Catty. His Dad Ref's soccer games. Frank is a head soccer coach for a high school....I don't remember which one. We played soccer together and were on a team that won a tournament at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia out of 100+ teams. Izat Azar was our goalie.

Oh yes...Team Handball with Mike "The Mugger" Muller...This carries over to WED GYM CLUB in HS - we used to play that all the time. I think he even beat up Mr. Wolfe and Judy's older brother!! I think I still have bruises from that!

I don't think many knew about this, but Rusty used to throw pot seeds into the experimental plants on those metal shelves at the back of Mr. Buss's room. They actually did grow a few inches until they were mysteriously removed.

Matt - Great detective work again.

Randy - Impressive soccer results. I had no idea. I knew you guys were very good.

Hey Stacey - It's been a while, but I did see you in the line at the movies a long time ago. I hope you are doing well. I remember walking to your house from third street to hang out. I thought I was walking for years before I got there.

Mare - There were a lot of guys from Catty who played soccer in the non football season. We had some really good teams and won a lot of tournaments. Back then Catty was a football town....now soccer is big there....who would have ever saw that coming??????

Hello Stacey.....I see you made it to bloggervision.

randyg said...

I guess you're a Blogaholic like the rest of us now. It's like a black hole....once you enter it you're stuck here.

Yes, Kay is getting big....she's a good kid on top of it....I only hope she stays that way. The middle school years are becoming a struggle for her.

stace, movies? i remember bumping into you at the roxy too...and Randy, can the whole soccer is big in catty now shit, football still rules!!

randyg said...

Kristen - wow....something bad must have happened that you hate soccer that much. Hey...Catty is a changing town. Look what they did to our football practice field. Don't get me wrong...I still follow the team during the season. Times have changed though.

Mare - lets talk more about Howard. So when did you start to listen to him? I think his show is even funnier now.

Mare said...

For many years....I started listening for the interviews, but back when Jackie was on. Who's your favorite on the show?

randyg said...

Mare - I miss Jackie on the show. Favorite???that's a toss up. I love all the interviews. He's more detailed now.

Easy on the soccer ! Mare- I was one of them. I had to drive to Allentown to play because Catty didn't have a team. Wouldn't you know, 1987 they start a HS Team? Just my luck. However, Catty will always be a football town as long as they keep a bar on every corner.

Mare said...

Arnie is a good replacement for Jackie. Think he has a substance issue? I can't believe the guests Howard gets.

Mare said...

Robb - I didn't remember that. Who else was on that team? Stinks that it wasn't established until 1987.

Anonymous said...

It sure did, but soccer has come a long way. Back then, there were very few schools with Soccer. I played for a team call Allentown Athletics. Lena Azar's brother played, but that was about it from Catty. Frank O. Played for Moravian. Not many soccer players in our class. I actualy played two years ago in a over 35 team. Thats was a rude awakening..ouch

randyg said...

Mare - I miss K.C. and how they use to pick on him. Artie is okay...I still think Jackie was funnier. How about the "sybian" have you heard any of those interviews? Some mornings I laugh so hard it hurts.

Mare said...

Randy - I've missed it lately. Is the Sybian comething lately? How about the new announcer from Star Trek.....I laughed so hard the day they made him read the top 10 from David Letterman because they told him he was going to be on the show and it was a big fat lie.

randyg said...

mare - you would know if you heard the sybian. Let's just say it's for all his porn star girls that come in. Pretty raw stuff.

Mare said...

Randy - Now I get the name thing with you. Where's Vicki?

Just kidding.

randyg said...

Mare - a little slow out of the gates but you finally caught on. Hey...don't look at me...Vicki is the one who brought it up.

Speaking of Vicki.....any word on her????? I pretty sure Robb caused her to go into labor this morning.

Steve,

One of my memories of Lincoln was in science telling the teacher how to light a bulb by using only a battery, wire, and a bulb. I can't remember his name, but I'm pretty sure it started with a M and he had whitish blond hair.

He would do the craziest things to make one fail.

Steve Freeman said...

Sonya - wassup? The teacher was Muenker, Mr. Muenker. The coolest thing he did was to get the assembly from Mr. Wizard (not the actual guy, but one of his underlings). That was the one where the guy froze a hotdog in liquid nitrogen

Anonymous said...

Steve-Do you remember model rocket club. Did we just build them, because I have no memory of the launch.

Steve Freeman said...

Robb
Yeah, I remember buying the damned things and working in Muenker's room forever on them. I think we had a contest at the end to see who did the nicest work, but never launched with him. Barry and I used to go down to Sheckler and launch off the corner of the parking lot. My first rocket (the one that came with the kit) launched about 6 times, until we packed it so tight we knew it would explode, a farewell flight of sorts.
