OMG. too much to read, however I did check out the food from A-Z...more than 1/2 the stuff does not ring a bell, however, everything i do recall is sweet, and some things i have in my house right not (bit-o-honey, chicken in a bisket, lime jello, juju bees, fluff, oreos, ovaltine, skor bars), i pretend i'm buying it for the kids but its really all for me! the kids definately have my oreo fetish, trisha is just finished off some peanut butter stuffed oreos, give me the double stuffed thought, the regular no longer cut it
mj, if i remember correctly, you had a thing for the watchamacalits!
and jamie, i have to tell you something funny, but totally unrelated to this post....if trisha is nearby when i am on the computer, i periodically pull up your sisters blog (which i also thoroughly enjoy)...everytime she sees your sister, she says "that girl has hairy armpits"...where do they come up with stuff?!
Kristen - Oreo fetish????? Now we're talkin! Don't leave out Tastykakes! I try so hard to leave Oreos out of my diet but they are so damn good. I give in on vacations. One year on vacation we bought two packs of oreos when we first got there. They lasted only one day. My daughter and her friend asked where they were and I just smiled. They were so ticked off at me. So they went and bought two more packs....one for me and one for them. My pack only lasted a day. They thought they were smart by hiding theirs in their room. They made the mistake of going swimming and my "bloodhound like senses" (cookiehound more like it)took over and found them. So I wrote a note to them and left it in the spot they hid them. It said "You can't hide the cookies from the Cookie Monster". They came back from swimming and later went to eat some and there was only the empty pack left with the note. (Note to self) teenage girls are stronger than they appear. So the grand total for packs of Oreos for the week came in around 5 (4.5 for me and .5 for them)
Haven't had a whatchamacalit in years but I do remember going to old Lady Hanie's and buying the candy cigaretes that had the fake powder, flying saucers and sweedish fish. Who else here remembers going and buying up a dollars worth of penny candy at her store??? Kristen, Andrea, Randy, Jamie I know you N. Catty kids hads to have spent your fare share of time there.
gosh I love that memory, wish my kids could have that pleasure.
on and Randy I have the same problem with the double stuff oreos, I can't buy them because I eat them all.
Don't forget Reppert's Store on the same street. Do you think it was ironic that Hanie's store was right across the street from the dentist's office? She kept him in business.
MJ...we didn't go to Hanie's as much as Woody's down on 2nd and Arch.
Kristen...if I tell my sister that, she'll delete that picture! Too funny.
Now I'm craving Oreos...I don't buy them either because I can't resist them.
oreos are best dipped in milk til soggy.....ooooooooooh yum...does anyone else like them that way...however, i am not big on them in other desserts like ice cream, cake or puddings!!
oh yea, hainey's store was definately looked forward to...the flying saucers also a weakness, they sell them at the baseball stand

I remember walking home from ccd class and seeing Woodie's store being robbed by an guy with a gun, I quickly ran back to church and told an adult. Not sure whatever happened. My mom has many a memory of Woody running a tab for them when she was a kid growing up on Front st.
yea, i remember woody's too, however i know when we were younger those of us who lived in N. Catty didnt head into Catty that often...Brad still says that us N.Catasauquans are the rich and he grew up in the ghetto, poor thing...anyway, as we got older I remember hanging out on front street with MJ at SpaceWorld quite a bit (huh, mj?) and i still remember my dad going ballistic when he found out i was spending my days down on front st.....which brings up another topic, favorite video games, til this day i still get the urge to play galaga on the kids gameboy!
oh my god Austin has Galaga on his gamecube and I love it along with centipeed and dig-dug. Oh yeah I still love my video games!!!
MJ, who actually 'bought' things at Hanies? Now I'm not implicating myself...
But I do remember Joe Strohl and/or one of the Webbers (lived behind our house), moved out before HS. They would have their newspaper bags on their shoulders, lean down into a freezer for a NuttyButty or something, then load everything into their bags. But the freezer wasn't the only area that things were taken from, that's for sure.
damn those kids, robbin' the old lady! should've known then how strohly would end up!

for the record I do not remember ever stealing from that grumpy ole lady I just used to get a kick out of making her count out 100 pieces on candy.
oh good, i feel better now...yea, 100 flying saucers please, i'm sure she actually counted them too, not because she didnt want to jip you, but she didnt want to give you more!! i see at lease 3 of us are not too busy now, on at the same time

MJ and Kristen- the candy store memories are sweet (no pun intended)! I'm amazed I have all my original teeth especially since my addiction to candy was fed regularly! I, too, wish there was such a thing as a neighborhood candy store nowadays. sigh....
Terri - there are neighborhood candy stores......they just call them "crack houses" today....LOL

thanks for the memories. it seemed as though i lived at haneys.....it was sad they never really kept that place going.
randy as for the tastycakes....i found a place here in scottsdale that sells them.....$10 a box. and yes i bought two of them...for the kids (not)! i hid them up in a closet so they couldn't find them!
i have to say that i too love those oreos.....
