New Addition to the Family!!!

Ever since I met Rob, he has wanted to get a dog. I successfully avoided this for three years, but as you can see, I finally gave in.

She is a boxer and we get to pick her up next weekend. We decided on a boxer because she has a short coat, is known to be a calm breed, and they are suppose to be great with other animals. The day before we picked her out, we went to Petco and while we were there, we ran into 5 different boxers. They are adorable - even when they are full grown.

I was really scared about Neon, but since we are bringing her in as a puppy, everyone tells me they should get along fine. Maybe one day I'll get Neon to sit on her back and get a picture of it to post.

I'll post more once we got her - I'll try to entertain with all the antics of training a puppy.

What will be the name of your newest "child"? Neon, Skittles, and R-Delicious.

Aww bless! How cute is she?!? Boxers are great dogs. There's a boxer that lives down the street from us and he's so sweet - really friendly with an expressive face.

Sonya, brace yourself, because raising a puppy really is like having a baby in the house. I can't stress enough that you should get a dog crate and start training her immediately to sleep in it. Don't make the mistake I made and let her sleep on your bed! This was hard on all of us when we tried to break our dog of that habit!

Good luck!

I agree crating a dog is the way to go, no worries about your house and furniture getting trashed while your out. My dog actually goes in his crate when we are home sometimes to sleep, he likes it. Of course aside from at night he usually is not in it more than a few hours since I am home most of the day. Once a dog is no longer a puppy they sleep like 20 hours a day anyway.

cute...yes crate it! our puppy destroyed the carpet edge between the living area and tiled kitchen floor...one night we were out, and a storm came by...dog was in the bathroom at the time, the wind closed both bathroom doors so he couldnt get out and he destroyed the wood molding around the tub...also dont give him prime rib bones...messed the entire apartment...eeeewwwwwwwwwww!

We already bought a training crate. Haven't picked out a name yet, waiting to spend a little more time with her. I kinda like the name Mia (Me-a) but no decisions yet.

Rob has had many dogs in his life, so I told him he's doing most of the training and I'm just his assistant.

I'll keep you posted.

Kristen too funny about the bone I gave Sparky a ham bone after xmas and the same thing happened over night he pucked and crapped all over his cage. Thank god he was crated because just that took me over an hour to clean at 3 am. I can't imagine what it would have been like if he was loose in the house.

try following him around with a paper plate to try and get it on there rather than the floor!!!

"...is known to be a calm breed"

Where'd you hear that lie? HIGH energy dogs - at least all the boxers I know (quite a few).

Google the "Dog Whisperer" - training starts the moment you get the puppy.

Congrats/good luck/ enjoy.
