Vacation

Well with summer coming to an end, my daughter has done most of the travelling. She was to Vernon, NJ with her dad for a week, then most recently in August she went to Maine (2nd picture) with her aunt. Last week we went to Ocean City, MD for a few days and unfortunately, the weather was crappy but we had a nice time anyway (1st picture). It has been great to hear about everyones adventures and vacations this past summer and it has definitely given me some ideas for next year. I have never been on a cruise but hopefully one day that will happen.

i recongnized that Burger King right away! Sounds like your daughter had a interesting summer...hope we can get down to OC after Thanksgiving...its been a couple years since we've done that since we go 2 weeks in the summer, I dont want to spend the money in OC, but we've had some nice weather when we go at that time and no crowds

Hey, I've been at that Burger King many time! Used to love going to OC. These days, I'd take any beach...next year for sure. Michelle...I really like that picture of you and your daughter. So you're going to help with the "how to handle the teenage years", right?

Oh, I haven't been to OC in years! Looks like a great time Michelle. I could use some of that "handling a teenager" advice now, and she's only 10!

I Love Maine and what a great time of year for her to go there. Like the others it's been years since I have been to OC. It's always nice to get away no matter the weather.

Well...as far as the advice, I think I need some myself. She turned 13 on Sunday and I think the whole world changed. I was hoping that some of our classmates who have already gone through teenage years with their kids would give some words of wisdom. Kristen, your son is the same age. Are they any different as far as attitudes?

no real attitude change, jake has always been quiet and reserved...he definately wants more freedom, and some of his friends who have older siblings have a bit more than he does, since their parents have been through it already..i'm trying to allow him more space, but i find it hard to even let him walk home at night from just down the street...even though i remember walking all over town in the dark...i think he should walk more (during the day) like to school, practice or the playground, but other parents insist on giving rides, he's very uninterested in helping out around the house

Michelle - It sounds like we were down there the same week. It was beautiful on the Saturday we arrived and the weather turned crappy Sunday to Tuesday. It was still good just to be away.

well my children are not interested in helping around the house either so that's not a teenage thing

OC is so expensive. One of my co-workers just got back from an extended weekend in Florida. He said it was cheaper to fly to/from and stay in a hotel room in Fort Lauderdale for 3 nights then spend the weekend at OC.

thats so true, sonya...we've compared costs, and we stay 2 weeks in myrtle beach in a 3-4 bedroom condo on the beach. it would cost us that for only 4 days in a comparable place in OC

It is expensive. It was only my 2nd time down at OC. As far as teenagers go, my daughter has such an attitude. This past year was a huge transition year between the music, clothes, and boys calling the house. I can't imagine what this year will be like. I keep Jenna on a very short leash. She isn't allowed to go places by herself yet. I am not ready for that yet. Some of her friends have more freedom too but I would rather be safe than sorry. I know that I am going to have to start giving her more freedom but it scares me to death.
