Shooting At Virginia Tech

I just saw on a CBS News Special Report that there was a shooting this morning at VA Tech. 20 people dead including the gunman. Colin, if you are reading the blog, please let us know you are ok! This sent chills down my spine just like any other time something like this happens, but knowing someone who is at the location of such a tragedy makes it even worse. It was already a year ago since the incident at Northampton where my neice and nephew go. Thankfully, that was nothing like this. But, I can still remember coming out of Giant, hearing the helicopters, and the rush of panic that set in. So, if anyone knows more or has heard from Colin, please update us. Thoughts and prayers!

at this time, there is coverage on msnbc...says at least 22 dead, 28 injured, suspect dead...young asian american male, shot himself, either had a problem with his girlfriend or a professor...all very preliminary right now...in an academic hall, i believe they said engineering building and before that he was in a dorm, they believe looking for his girlfriend

Lots of people around here know people at VA Tech or went there. So everyone we've talked to is so upset. Prayers for Colin.

I'm glad to hear that Colin is okay. We must be a close-knit group. We come here to keep in touch. I love this blog and hope it gets hot again. I think after this post, we need some levity. I'll work on it.

It's good to hear that Colin is OK - I had just heard on ESPN that Beamer and his staff were asked to evacuate the campus by 12:30 -they stayed until all of the 110 Football Players in the program were accounted for....and then they left Campus.

oh good...yea jeff, i saw that too, love the football family mentality

We definitely need to pray for all involved. I can't imagine what it must be like to have a child at the campus and not knowing what is going on or who was hurt. It is hard to believe how things like this keep happening. It was not that long ago that we had the Amish school shootings in Lancaster County.

speaking of having a kid that goes there, i just read in todays paper that Mr. Cadden's son goes there...one of his roommates, also a Parkland grad was in that hall and finished his exam early and left, talk about being lucky

I was also thinking about Colin last night and I am happy to hear that he is okay. What a horrific tragedy and my prayers go out to all of those students, faculty and parents. As a society, we all believe that our kids are safe at school and as we are realizing, I guess we are not safe anywhere. May GOD be with those families who have lost loved ones and give strength to those who are still working their way through this terrible ordeal.
