Locked down

My school has been on lockdown this morning since 8:40. It is now nearly 3 hours later, and our administration has not let us know anything. I have no idea what is going on, and the students are getting very restless. I would feel so much better if I knew what was going on.

It has been three hours, and this is what I got from the Pocono Record website on the situation (yes, we are still locked down):

Stroudsburg High School in lockdown
October 24, 2006
Stroudsburg high school is locked down. While there is no specific threat against the school, officials are being cautious because two students haven't attended class in two days. The parents of the students have noticed that firearms are missing from the home.
Some parents are coming to the school to take their children home; however, Acting Superintendent Stephen Brodmerkel has recommended that students remain in the school, where it is safe.
Monroe Career and Technical Institute, which at least one of the students also attends, was in lockdown this morning for 30 minutes. Morning students at the technical institute will remain there for the remainder of the day.

Well, they did let us out for 10 minutes to go to the lavatory, but now we are back in my room. All the rumors are flying through the halls. Its so funny, how fast word can pass as they go to the bathroom.
All I've heard is that the boys are missing and so are rifles from the homes.

Please be very careful. I just don't understand how things are so different from what we grew up with. All these kids killing each other..... hope they are found soon and they and everyone is safe.

We have been allowed to go to the lav and now the students have been allowed to go to the caf. to get food and bring it back, but still NOTHING from administration other than "It's almost over and we will let you know what is going on in a few minutes". That was an hour ago.

At the beginning of the whole thing, an administrator said, "we are going into lockdown, and an email explaining the situation will follow momentarily". That was nearly 5 hours ago.

At least I got to eat my creamed chipped beef.

Your safety and those of the kids in your class are the most important. It must be crazy being stuck in there but in the end it will all be worth it when everyone is safe and sound. Stay safe and keep us posted!

Steve, the Pocono Record says students were being dismissed at 2:35, but the last update was at 1:45. What's happening? I hope you're on your way home!

The day ended in lockdown (6 hours of no idea what was really going on). No one was hurt and as the comment above states, the whole thing was probably an overreaction, but you never know. They still have NOT found the two boys and the whole day was a serious mess.

Steve, glad to hear everything is over and you're safe. Hopefully they will find the boys and that it was an overreaction. It is sad that this is what things have become, but you can't be too careful anymore.

As it turned out, the students went HUNTING and had no intentions of taking out people, just squirrels and birds. http://www.poconorecord.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061025/NEWS/610250353

JESUS H CHRIST, imagine that...the kids were HUNTING!!!!

WHO'D HAVE EXPECTED TAHT IN RURAL NOTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA!!!!!

They ought to fire the overgrown barney fife school administrator responsible for blowing this situation out of proportion. If I were a parent in that district, I'd be dancing on someone's desk the next morning.

who the heck is burt friggin hoovis???? some blog stalker or something?
anyway glad everything turned out well....yes as a society we can't be too careful anymore...better safe than sorry I supose. Speaking as a parent who does have guns in the house thier's very well may have been locked up remember teenagers have a way of finding ways to figure these things out. The responsibility falls on the parent to teach gun safety and make for a happy home so kids don't become out of control. There are far too many issues of abuse ect. going on today.

Lets go back 20 years.......if this happened then during this same time of year no one would be this excited over it because after all it is HUNTING SEASON!!!!! I can remember skipping classes with Rusty, Rock and other die hard hunters during the season and no one ever got this upset???? What has happened to our society??? I can remember having a shot gun in my Maverick to go small game hunting after school. Today that would land me in jail?????

The funny thing about the whole situation is the only thing the students can be charged with is TRUANCY. This is because they did not have anything to do with the hysteria of the administration and as I said, were out hunting.
The fact is, the one boy called his mom on his cell when the police were searching the area where they were camping. He asked what was going on, and she said, "They are looking for YOU". The two boys had NO idea that any of the turmoil had occurred; they just skipped school and went hunting/camping.
