I can bring a pkg of hot dogs and rolls and brownies. If we need more things later I will add that.

We might also want to add some bags of chips to the list.

a couple people should bring charcoals and some flammable liquid, i'm assuming the grills at this pavillion are not gas.

Sonya, thanks for the list. Being that we don't have monies to spend on the main items which would be easier to organize, we'll try to get volunteers. If anyone shows up w/o a food item, we'll send them to the grocery store. : )

Put me down for the BBQ coals and I'll see what's needed later this week.

Randy, we should be ok on tables. I'll check things out on Friday and call if needed.

Sonya, got your message, I think it's too late to call tonite, I'll try tomorrow. Try me on my cell anytime 704-756-2822.

For anyone reading this and planning to attend the picnic, please volunteer to bring an item! We need as many people involved as possible. And we could use volunteers for the main items first, hamburgers/hot dogs/rolls. Thanks!

Info about the 'Octoberfest'event on Saturday, from Heidi Miller.

Hi Dave,

This is Heidi (MILLER) Kober. The Oktoberfest at the Catty playground is my family's picnic. We used that theme last year and it stuck. It is our 3rd annual private event (although quite large) that somehow went public and caused quite a stir in this little nosy town!!! It is set up under the main pavilion and adjoining grounds. (Which includes the horseshoes) Our picnic starts at 1pm, but we will start to set up at 7am.

The small pavilion that your class reserved is certainly far enough away that you will have your own space. You will hear our music, but you will only have to come near us to use the bathrooms. All of our guests will be wearing wristbands so we know who belongs to us.

My brother, who is the parks manager, called to ask who the class of "86 was when he was notified of the rental today. I have been checking in on your website periodically, and logged on to see the concern about the Octoberfest. Just wanted to clear things up for you.

If you have any other questions feel free to email me. Congrats on an impressive website/blog, and have a great time this weekend!! I hope ours will be half as successful.

Sincerely,

Heidi (miller) Kober

More from Heidi, pavillion info.

FYI - The small pavillion is brand new and is located across the creek from the tennis courts on the church st. side. The other pavillion Steve was mentioning was torn down and replaced with an ampitheater. There are 6 - 8 metal picnic tables there that each seat 8 - 10 people. hope that helps,

Thanks, Dave. I mistook Church St. for Walnut St. My bad. I haven't lived in town for 17 years and I did drive by, but I did not look at street signs. I saw 9 tables under the pavilion and one outside. We are right next to the creek for anyone wanting to go for a dip or catch some water striders. The creek does not flow the way it used to though.

Ah, catching waterstriders, and those crayfish (?) under rocks. That was when the creek had some decent water. Last I looked about a month ago when I was home, some parts were completely dried up. I really didn't take notice to the pavillion situation, except for the new bandshell at the bottom of the 3 dips.

If someone wants to hook up with me Friday, I would be glad to give a case of Tastykake for the picnic. Steve? We live only blocks apart....

Laurie, we've certainly discussed that previously, but we wanted to have some kind of organization for food. I think we're going to go with the volunteer plan as we have it now. However, if bringing your own food works better for you, that's not a problem.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone -and all the "little ones". My daughter somehow thinks she is going swimming in the creek....besides the fact I explained to her that it would be too cold, little did she (or I) know that there is no WATER in this creek!

I won't be the one to explain it to her...but when you see/hear a precocious 3 year old wearing a princess swimsuit, crying her eyes out -you'll know that's my daughter. Hopefully the music from Octoberfest "drowns" her out (no pun intended!). See everyone on Saturday!

Jeff

Longe, are you going to happy hour?
If so, bring the loot then, otherwise drop it at my house if you want.
