OMG

Anyone see Oprah today? (Ladies) Rick Springfield is still hot!! Even better, I think! I've been watching General Hospital since I was like 10, when MaryJo & I used to run home from school and leave the pool in order to get home to watch it at 3:00. I remember seeing him on those episodes of the Hulk & Wonder Woman. And I remember seeing his movie, Hard to Hold. Anyone else see that? It was really a bomb, but I didn't care, Rick Springfield was in it! Lucas was in awe because I sang all the words to Jessie's Girl and then he just rolled his eyes! Woo, time to get my head back into homework & dinner. Maybe Brad will get lucky tonight!

The Safety Dance

Do you remember that song?

A senior (who I no longer teach because he didn't take Spanish as an elective - he should have, but that's beside the point!) came into my classroom the other day and asked me if I knew The Safety Dance. I said I remembered it and he said, "Cool song. I've got it on my phone. You want it?" Huh? The Safety Dance? Cool in 2008? So I said yeah, I did want it and he sent it to my phone. I've been bopping around the kitchen this morning while I do laundry and clean up.

So then yesterday during 12th grade Spanish, my students were working on the written portion of their final exam. When we do written work I always let them listen to their i-pods and I could hear, faintly, Duran Duran. Bizarre.

Are the 80's cool again? What are teenagers in the U.S. listening to?

American Idol - Girls Show

I was more impressed with the girls. Again, the show was a little boring, but I see some hope for the future.

I do not like the rocker nurse and I don't understand what they see in her. I'm not that impressed with the tattoo girl either, but they were "blown" away with her. Sometimes I wonder if I am watching the same show they are.

On a side note - was anyone else disappointed when they cut the nerdy kid the week before? I can't believe they picked the kid from Staunton, VA over him. I was glad to see Simon was upset about that decision.

What do others think?

Nine words women use (and men need to remember). . .

This was sent to me by a female coworker - Guess I'm in trouble - AGAIN!

1.) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

2.) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

3.) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.

4.) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!

5.) Loud Sigh: This is actually not a word, but it is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to #3 for the meaning of nothing.)

6.) That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a woman can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

7.) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or Faint. Just say "You're welcome".

8.) Whatever: Is a women's way of saying F@!K YOU!

9.) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's wrong?' For the woman's response refer to #3. Then RUN!

Guys, these are WORDS to LIVE (or DIE) by!

American Idol

I was a bit disappointed with last night's performances.

I would have to say that the 17 year old can sing and I really enjoyed the dude with the dreadlocks. The 18 year old - Daniel - bummed me out with his Elvis song.

What do others think about last night's show?

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Anyone have any Valentine's Day traditions they would like to share? I don't really, but since the kids came along, I try to do something a little special. I know we don't need a specific day of the year to express our love, but sometimes life gets crazy and we need to be reminded a little bit. A couple years in a row, I made special heart shaped meat loaves. The first year it was cute. The 2nd year it was cute. The 3rd year it was old. Jake asked today, in his 13 year old, should've been a whiny girl voice, "Are you making those heart shaped meat loaves again?" And when I said no, he said good! Lucas came home and with great anticipation said, "Did you make those heart shaped meat loaves?" And when I said no, he said..."aaawww" So one boy was happy, one boy was disappointed, and Trisha doesn't care about the meat loaves, she just wants more chocolate! One thing they do love, that is not just a Valentine's Day goody, but a whatever the special day is goody, is Chocolate Cream Pie. So I whipped one up today and topped it with red & pink heart candies. I am now going to take Jake to his girlfriends house and look forward to coming home for a quiet night of Survivor and Lost! It will be especially relaxing because I will not have any "in need of a sub" calls coming in, since there is no school tomorrow! Woo-hoo! Here's hoping everyone is loved tonight!!

Is it the weather?

It's been quiet around here again, and The Morning Call online tells me old man winter is beating down on the East Coast. Today the paper says "flooding!" I worry about my mother in weather like this. I know my brother will drop in and make sure she's okay, but still, I worry. What about you guys? Everyone okay? Or is it just that you're too busy sandbagging to blog?

Catty Gangland?

I read an article in the Morning Call online that really makes me wonder what's happening in Catty. If you still live there - or nearby - thoughts? Is it still the nice little town we grew up in, or is it (as we say here in Yorkshire) as rough as a badger's arse?

Okay, I have to vent somewhere...I have been dealing with a sick husband since last evening....He has the flu and you would think he was dying...He rarely gets sick, thank God...He is the WORST patient....complains constantly, doesn't like to swallow pills, needs constant pillow adjustments, fresh water every half hour and at the same time I am taking care of three kids ages five, three and 4 months....And I think my husband is worse than the other three put together....I gave him some meds to knock him out this morning and left the house for four hours with the younger two just to get some peace....Being a nurse you would think I would have patience for this, but he is driving me crazy....I guess that I lost my bedside manner working in the OR for fourteen years.....Its much easier when the patient is out cold....

National Treasure Book of Secrets

Well, this movie FINALLY opened over here! Saw it today and really liked it, but I have a nitpick. Sorry, but I'm really anal about films being accurate. Nicholas Cage and his crew visit Buckingham Palace in April. We know it's April because it says so on the screen at the start of the film. Buckingham Palace is only open to visitors in August, when the Queen is away in Scotland. Nicholas Cage even said it in the film when they were trying to break into the Queen's study.

Nick's Girlfriend: "What if the Queen is in there?"
Nick: "She won't be. The Royal Standard isn't flying, so she's at Windsor."

Well, she might be at Windsor, Nick (which, by the way, ISN'T in Scotland!), but you still wouldn't be visiting in April. I know, I know. It's only a movie.

Stupid Hollywood.

Some Dr. Phil Advice

I am passing this along to all of you because it works, and we could all use a little calmness in our lives. By following some simple advise heard on the Dr. Phil show, you too can find inner peace. Dr. Phil proclaimed, "The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all of the things that you have started and have never finished."

So I looked around my house to find all of the things that I started and had never finished and after getting the kids out of the house this morning, I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of White Zinfandel, a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream, a bottle of Kahlua, a package of Oreos, the remainder of an old Prozac prescription, the last of the cheesecake, some Doritos and a box of chocolates.

You have no idea how freakin good I feel right now.

Berman explodes

Have you seen this? It is priceless. It reminds me of when I ask students to get out their homework or to get quiet at the beginning of class (Oh, I wish I could some days).
Warning, he does tell it like it is!

Ding Dong - The Pats are Dead!!!

I have been waiting for someone else to post first - but I can't wait any longer.

I am so happy that the Patriots lost yesterday. I was so sick and tired about hearing about them being the "greatest team ever". They only did well because the rest of the league sucked so badly. I was suprised by how low scoring the game was. The Giants played great defense and shut the Pats up for good!!!

On a side note, I was very disappointed in this year's commercials. Did anyone see any they really liked?
