Graduation 2006

As I sit here reading about Stroudsburg High School's Class of 2006 graduation, I thought back to our graduation at Alumni Field in 1986. I taught many of the students that graduated on Saturday, and only 20 years ago, I graduated from the great Catasauqua High School.
I thought back to all the fun we had while in the halls of CHS and how 20 years can go so freakin' fast. I miss the times of hangin' out at the playground. I miss Lew's basement gatherings. I went over the Race Street bridge and noticed that Caty
Bev is moving into the space that was Nikki Hoi's back then. I miss the "old" days and all the fun times we had. I hope that at the reunion, we can relive the "GOOD" ole times, and not bring up all the "bad" stuff. I am sure this post will start some people's juices and more "bad" will be remembered than good. Anyway, let's get this back to the happenin' spot it once was.

I was reading the Morning Call online yesterday and with all the articles about graduations, I went to the Catty website to see when this year's class was graduating. They graduate today (well, tomorrow for you guys). And I started thinking about our graduation, nearly 20 years ago to the day, and (sorry for waxing lyrical here) I realized that in 1986, I never in a million years dreamed that in 2006, I'd be living in another country 3,000 miles away, teaching, married to terrific guy who makes me laugh everyday, have 2 great kids, travelling all over Europe and doing all the other things I'm doing now. It's funny where life takes us. I don't know what point I'm trying to make. These 20 years have gone so quickly and we're all still connected to each other because of Catty High...

Sorry. I've been up since 3a.m. (it's nearly 5a.m.) now because we're having a heat wave (well into the 90's) and I live in a country where air conditioning hasn't been discovered yet, and Chris (the baby) isn't coping well with the heat, so we've been awake for awhile. Lack of sleep makes me philosophical and a bit goofy! It also causes me to write run-on sentences. Mrs. Lambert wouldn't be pleased!

Vicki, sorry to hear about no AC, but at least you weren't so hot you couldn't type.

I have thought about graduation myself with my neighbor graduating from Whitehall tonight. All those memories came rushing back. We had a great class of individuals where we didn't have to worry about being safe at school. Our teachers had a positive influence on us, our parents were strict and we thank them now and the world was much different. We had "We are the World" and the Space Challenger explosion. Those worldly events were our news, not school shootings and bombings. We had a lot of great memories at Catty High!

Can't seem to remember my password...too many pin numbers, etc. Even though I'm 'pushing 40' (as my dear old dad has pointed out) I'm bound & determined to keep them all straight w/o the need to write them down (I lose lists anyway)!

Graduation is so in my mind, too, as my nephew graduates from Whitehall tonite (please don't rain) and as I'm about to send another batch of 26 2nd graders up to 3rd. I think of us in all of those Sheckler pictures and can't help but wonder what lies ahead for my little girl. If another 20 years blow by like it has since graduating, then YIKES! We'll turn around to find our kids are no longer little and be attending our 40th reunion! Too sad our CHS has no seniors walking it's halls!

Vicki, you've started something here with the heat-induced philosophy!

Great pictures, Steve!

I must admit that I have been quiet as of late because I was finishing my thesis. I presented on Saturday, June 3. My presentation went well.

Reading that our HS graduation was 20 years ago is a little strange since I will graduate from Drexel U. this coming Saturday, June 17. Since I don't have kids, I've been more focused on college graduations and my own graduation after 3+ years of intense work. Of course, after all this build up, I'm now thinking, "Now what?" as I take a breath, take some time off and then hopefully find a job that is fulfilling.

As for high school and the "good ol' days." Well...I've never thought about that time in my life as the "good ol' days" but with time and maturity, I now view things more objectively than I did then. (At least I hope I do!) I didn't know many of my fellow classmates very well back in the day and that was a missed opportunity. I have been enjoying getting to know people on the blog and look forward to connecting at the reunion!

BTW, I find that my own memories grew fonder with the passage of time and I remember more good than bad. :-)

Donna, Hazel O'Connor was on television the other day, and for some strange reason, it made me think of you. :-)

Wow
yes, the memories are flooding back. Especially this past weekend.......... Sadly, I saw a lot of Catty Grads, teachers, coaches at Debbie Linton's funeral. It was great to see so many old familiar faces but at such a sad time. I think almost all our teachers look the same- maybe with just grayer hair....Mr Laubach, Angeline, MacLaughlin, Strein, Mrs Mondschein. Got caught up with a lot of past Catty grads too......

Hey Steve,
How come you don't have your arm around me?
You look like the guy from the old Miami Vice in those pictures...Tubbs?

Vicki--Hazel O'Connor? Now there's a blast from the past! I still have "Breaking Glass" on LP. :-) I looked and I see she has a Website; I'll have to check it out!

Kim, you have no idea where my arm was. Maybe I was afraid you would hit me. I don't know, I will have to take a pic with you at the reunion and maybe we can hold hands or something.

Steve, Kim LOOKS like she's ready to kick your ass in that picture! ;-)
