Meeting at Blue Monkey a success

On Monday, April 17th, 2006 at 6:00 PM, Mary, Julie and I met with Gary Conrad to work on the menu for the reunion. We came up with the following:
1) the festivities will begin promptly at 6:00 PM and go until 10:00 PM.
2) there will be well drinks and domestic beer on tap from 6:00 until 9:00 as part of your ticket price (cash bar for anything special and ANYTHING AFTER 9:00)
3) there will be a buffet (eat at your leisure) of Chicken Cordon Bleu (Tim, you know you want some chicken), Stuffed Manicotti, and Stuffed Flounder. The side dishes are Italian mixed vegetables and parsley potatoes (hopefully like we use to have at CHS) along with salad, dinner rolls, coffee, tea, soda and assorted desserts.
We are working on the entertainment portion of the evening, and will post when we have more information to pass along.
The price looks like it will be $25 per person (if it changes, which I doubt, I will pass that along).
We are also working on actual invitations that will be mailed to everyone we have addresses for, so those of you working on contacting the "lost classmates" should try to get addresses as well.

Let's get back together and talk about old times and new on the weekend of October 6th and 7th. I can't wait for what Judy has coined the term "Octoberfest".

must be out of the loop but what are "well drinks"?

That sounds great. Meal and open bar for a very reasonable price! Thanks for pulling those strings El Presidente and friends!
As far as entertainment....I think it was Lew that suggested just putting together different music on a bunch of CD's. Maybe we have a 'mixmaster' among us who could put that together. Anyone? Other suggestions? Bueller? Ferris Bueller?

well drinks is bar talk for basic bottom-shelf mixed drinks. rum/coke, vodka/cran, gin/tonic

I'd like to put in a request for a choice of beer other than just a light beer and/or budweiser-type, something a little bit better/darker that everyone might like such as Yuengling Lager. (My actual desire is for something darker, but I'd be happy to get Yuengling)

On the mailing invitations, I suggest the postcard option, 4-up on cardstock (yellow?), only 30 copies needed, low mailing cost, easy to organize. I'd be happy to handle the whole thing, designing (very easy), importing the addresses from the spreadsheet I have, and mailing. Let me know.

And good job on the Monkey organizing. I like the setup.

good idea Dave but postcards are to easy to lose in the mail. Mailing out 100 invites shouldn't be too costly.

mj jones said...

thanks Matt that is what I thought. Sounds like a good plan and the price seems fair as well.

do you have the b-52's Rock Lobster. That makes me think of those MS dances at St. Pauls.

Love the music idea Lew. Thanks for offering. Something you can handle on your own? Hate to have you do it all.
Maybe we could have a separate title for 'Reunion music' on the blog so Lew knows where to go to find suggestions.

Dave- if you are willing to do all the mailings, you can do whatever is easiest and works for you. That is really a lot of work! Thanks!
By the way, Mary and I are in for golf on Saturday before the reunion.

Kim, I can help with music. If we need speakers, sound system please let me know. I have access to equipment. We can plug laptop into system and have a class of 86 music shuffle !

I like the idea of a mix CD rather than a DJ.

BTW, I have been replacing some of my old LPs with CDs and I have the first two B-52's CDs so I have "Rock Lobster" on CD if you want it for mix. (Or "Strobe Light" since Rusty always seemed to like that one at middle school dances if I remember correctly. :-)

How did I know Dave would have a problem with the beer.....?

I'd pay to see Rusty show up in a Sex Pistols outfit, complete with a couple hundred safety pins, and do the pogo to Rock Lobster.

Sorry to be a pain, but does this include wine - in particular white zinfandel? I do not drink beer and there are only a few mixed drinks I like.

Song wise, I remember "Cars" "Time Warp" and "Turning Japanese"

Robb - any way to do a Power Point program with music and old pictures from all the school years? It would be a lot of work from all of us to send in some pictures but could make for some good enterainment for the evening. Just a thought.

Kim - I have you and Mary down for golfing. We need more hackers to sign up to make it worth our while. I believe I have 11 people signed up so far.

yes, no problem. Matt probably has better skills though...

"Chicks dig guys with skills" "nunchuck skills, computer hacking skills"!!!!!! Matt....has lots of skills.

Sonya (Zinfandel lush) - I don't think wine was in the group of well drinks.

You people all have good ideas and we should look into the possibility of hooking into their system and eliminating the DJ.
Robb - if you think you and Lew can do it without a DJ, let Julie know, she is contacting a DJ soon.

Wow, I thought the blog was in hibernation, but you mention food and beer and it comes back strong as ever.

Dave - we were told the beer would be domestics (and I saw a Yeungling Lager tap at the bar upstairs).

Everyone, keep the comments coming. This is going to be a group effort and I believe a success due to everyone's involvement and attendance (did I sound too much like a politician, if so, good, that was my intention).
- El presidente (from Gilligan's Island)

Freeman - I now have you signed up for golf.....too bad.

Matt's definitely the guy to throw pics into a creative presentation. Wait, quiet. Listen closely....I think I hear him volunteering.

randyg said...

Pauko - are you sure those are not just the voices in your head that you hear??? After all those times of hitting your head on the bus????

Steve Freeman said...

Randy, I WILL NOT be the caddy from the golf picture. I am not Tiger Freeman or Calvin Peete Freeman. Are there ANY other black or part black golfers?

randyg said...

Freeman - According to Matt I may be half Mexican????? Anyone remember Brad Schuler in Spanish class saying "No...So...Oh...Trose" for Nosotros. I still say it that way cause it makes me laugh.

Sonya C said...

Steve,

Can we get a list of what all the "well" drinks are? So far it appears I will not be drinking that evening....that sucks!!!

andrea said...

i'm just wondering where the after party is....

Sonya C said...

According the Robb the river....

randyg said...

Sonya - the "well" drinks goes like this......We'll have some off this, We'll have some of that, and We'll be feeling mighty fine by the end of the night!!!!! Is that well enough for you. If we have to we'll sneak a bottle of wine in just for you.

andrea said...

i'll bring you a bottle! we could meet in the parking lot before we go in.....kinda like before the dances

randyg said...

Sonya - Option B - We have our first designated driver on our hands people!!!!!!!!!

andrea said...

good idea randy! i like that option also!!! ha!

randyg said...

See....I'm just looking out for everyone.....and thinking safety!!!

Vicky said...

Pauko, I've e-mailed you reference dark beer. :-D

LongE said...

Sonya...I assume white zin will be included.

Sonya C said...

I haven't lived in Catty for 15 years so I would have no idea on how to get anyone home unless you have a detailed map pinned to your chest.

Dan, since beer is free you have a deal....

pauko27 said...

Vicki, I'll check it out. Tilburg has been my recent choice. But I just saw the other day that the food store (Lowes) in the shopping center of our running store has a HUGE selection of beer, and they'll bring something in if you request it.

pauko27 said...

Everyone, let's not forget about the partying post-10:00 pm, either continuing at the Monkey or at the hotel of choice. Did we decide on the hotel yet?

Steve Freeman said...

Dave,
I think that is cool that you sell beer in your running store. "our running store has a HUGE selection of beer". It is also nice that you custom order for your clients.

re: the after party...

Lew, I dont think you ever answered me about being a member at the club...are you? I hate to suggest it until I talk to Brad (since he is a member, and whoever comes in is supposed to be with a member...) I am pretty sure he will be with me, or maybe i will have to join the new women's auxilary they are trying to start just for this occassion...however, everyone will have to be on their best behavior....ok forget it, i know that will never happen!

Mixmasters Lew (and Rob)
Give Gary Conrad at the Blue Monkey a call directly about the whole music/sound system thing. Sounds like you know the right questions to ask. That way that problem can be done and over with right away. If for some reason- you can't do it, then we'll tell Julie to talk to a DJ.
His # is 484-620-1027.
