Happy Memorial Day

Does anyone know how many of our classmates served in the military?

What is the picnic menu for the weekend?

How many will watch the Indy 500?

John's working this weekend, so we'll bbq during the week (it's half term break, so I don't have to work for 10 days. Yea!!!)

We'll probably have grilled veggies, chicken or fish, grilled bananas with ice cream and a glass or two of wine!

Kristen - Memorial Day & the Indy 500 go hand and hand. The Andretti's have three family members in the race. For the first time ever there are three women in the race and we all know that women are better drivers than men. How many men do you know that can park a car sideways in a garage? LOL.

Ahhhhhh......steamed clams. Now that sounds good.

Vicki - I am interested in the grilled bananas and ice cream. It actually sounds pretty good. How long do you grill the bananas?

i have to admit, the andretti saga intrigues me, since they are local and all, however, sitting in front of the tv watching the cars go round and round for hours does not...

i love grilled fruit, pineapples are also good...i'm wanting to try grilled plums & peaches with ice cream, and adding the wine to my list this weekend also, that's a rarity that i need to start doing more of now that trisha is older...i'm ready to let loose a little more often...God knows i need it (and so does Brad, know that i need it that is)

Randy, the bananas look pretty nasty when they're grilled, but they taste yummy!

Cut a slit into a side of a banana (leave the peel on) but don't cut through it. Slide a square of chocolate into the slit, and then wrap it up in aluminum foil. Stick it on the grill for a few minutes (sorry, can't be more specific about the time frame). When it feels soft, remove it from the foil, squish it out of the skin, and then serve it with a scoop (or two) of ice cream. You can put syrup over the ice cream too if you're having a chocolate fit.

It's pissing it down with rain here today, so no one's going to be grilling anything. :-/

Randy, I just googled "grilled bananas" and what I've described is actually a grilled banana split. The way to properly grill a banana is to trim off the ends, leave the skin on hand cut in half lengthwise. Brush the cut side with melted butter and then stick on the grill for less than one minute. When they're golden, they're done.

I bet they'd be really nice if you tossed them in a little rum before you grill them too.

i'm just trying to understand why everyone is talking a glass or two of wine.....what is wrong with the whole bottle???

we are actually spending the weekend doing absolutely nothing. last day of school was this past thursday....so i'm trying to decide whether i'm celebrating or just trying to deal with the fact that they are all home already!

either way.....have a great holiday weekend and stay safe!!!

so, andrea, you are still out there huh!?...drop me a line, planning on coming home at all this summer? my kids are in school until 6/13, brad is done on the 8th...i'm looking forward to lazy mornings, but the long days of whining and fighting will not be pleasant...and, i did polish off a bottle of wine last night, but it was only that Arbor Mist, tastes like juice and not very potent so the morning was a breeze, no wine headache

Indy 500 on rain delay but Marco Andretti would finish 2nd for the 2nd year in a row if they call the race. Not bad for a 20 year old. Danica Patrick will finish 3rd if they call the race....one for the ladies.

Vicki - I need to give this a try.

Saturday we opened the pool, Sunday we went to Hershey park and Monday we chilled by the pool and grilled sausage sandwiches. A very relaxing much needed long weekend. Now it's back to work and baseball.

I know I am jumping in late here, but we were at a baseball tournament in West Virginia with our oldest son, Joshua. Even though his team lost pretty badly for every game, we had fun and the younger ones had a chance to swim for the first time this season in the hotel pool. We came home early since we got eliminated from the touney and went to a picnic with friends. It was a fun, relaxing weekend. I'm glad everyone had fun.

Vicki-not so sure about the grilled banana thing...hot, mushy bananas sound kind of yucky. But then again anything tastes good with chocolate!

Today was the first day it hasn't rained since Saturday! We still haven't barbecued - we were lucky we managed to get the grass mowed between showers. :-/
