??? PICNIC CANCELLED ??? (Discussion in progress)

I sent Carol an email asking about the picnic and she informed me that she cancelled the picnic.

I really was looking forward to the event and I'm sure alot of others were too. Can we do a quick headcount and does someone in the area want to see if the pavilion is still available if there is interest?

(Everyone, let's continue to discuss the picnic in this post and make a decision asap....added by Dave post-Sonya posting)

It finally posted!!!!

Maybe we could have an informal get together since it's so late in the game to try and collect money from people???

Like I said in another post, I will help plan the menu and with food if we do have a formal picnic but I definitely need to know how many are coming and the costs paid by each (maybe $5 over 10, $2.50 below). I really can't afford to pay all the costs and not be reimbursed.

Cat and i were planning on coming with the 2 girls. even if the picnic stays cancelled we'll probably kill some time at the playground that afternoon.

Sonya, whether it works or not, thanks for trying to keep the picnic alive.

Matt,

Can you help with an evite or something to see what's going on with everyone else??? I'm afraid some may have planned on only attending the picnic.......

mathbach said...

i'd need an email list from Steve or Dave...

how much was it to rent the pavilion, anybody?

what happened? Is everything ok with Carol? Why is it cancelled?

Matt, Steve would have the most updated list. At the very least, I think we should pay to reserve the pavillion and let people show up informally on their own (and bring their own food). I thought evites were going out specifically for the picnic, I figured I might've accidently deleted mine.

mathbach said...

here is the evite page, so we know who was planning on coming.

mathbach said...

i agree with Dave (whoa, that was hard to type.) we should just reserve the pavilion.

Sonya C said...

Who is the area could do that?

Carol cancelled the picnic because she said there was no interest in it. I never did respond to the evite because I talked about coming.

Should I change my listing????

By the looks of the e-invite, there were about 30ish people that planned on attending. Sounds like enough to go forward. As Matt said- people just showing up with kids and some food at the playground sounds like a picnic to me!

Sonya, I made a few changes to your post. It sounds like we have a lot of interest and we should continue to pursue these plans.

The main questions to first get answers to are:

Do we still have the pavillion reserved? If not, how do we go about getting it back?

What to do about the food situation? I like the idea of providing hamburgers, hot dogs, rolls, and condiments (and a grill?), and having everyone bring drinks, side items, cups, etc.

Who can volunteer to help organize? Sonya sounds in and I can provide assistance on Friday and Sat. We can get reimbursed later.

Thanks Laurie, if you could try again, it would be greatly appreciated. We all want this to work out, so if we all put our collective minds together, I know we can do something. I hope it is not too late for the pavilion.

Can someone let me know if they received my evite message about the plans for the picnic(sent 7:50ish 9/28)?

Got it Steve - Try the North Catty pavilion if you can't get Catty's.
Also - the people who are playing golf that morning - we should wrap up around 1 1:30 and could stop by afterwards. I am planning on stopping by before the "main" event. And "yes Mr. Freeman we'll try and behave while playing golf" even though you bagged on us!

I was planning on attending with the wife & kids. Sonya - give me a call to let me know if you need me to bring anything (610-383-7071) or in the office (610-878-3819). I can bring anything you need (have mini-van will travel!!).

P.S. - My office # is only good for Friday. I start a new job with a new company (promotion) on Monday!

We were planning on attending the picnic also. We could also have everyone bring a hot and cold dish to share and each family brings their own place settings and cups. It would be ashame to cancel it. I thought there were quite alot of people interested.

Jeff, congratulations on the new job promotion! I hope all goes well on your first day!

I like Carol's idea but the hot dish may be hard for out of towners. Maybe they could supply some drinks???

I think North Catty is a better option. I heard there is a huge October fest type of picnic going on that day at the Catty Playground. With that said, space may be an issue. FYI

I just checked the availablity of the north catty pavillion and it is not available, unless another class of 86er beat me to it. sorry.

mathbach said...

i guess they did away with South Catty playground. maybe somebody local (Kristen) knows of another spot we could meet with some picnicish type amenities.

or maybe we ixnay the food part of this and just meet at North Catty to let the kids run around while we catch up.

randyg said...

Here is an option......why didn't I think of this earlier....Duh!! Willowbrook has a huge pavilion and probably would not charge us for it. The only draw back is not having the playground for the kids. North Catty playground is just up the street but at least we would have a roof over our heads if the weather turns bad.

randyg said...

I just called Willowbrook and they do not have anything scheduled for that day. The manager is suppose to call me back tomorrow sometime. Let me know if this is an alternate location for us.

Jeff P said...

Randy,

Willowbrook made me think of another location...just a block or two from the Golf Course - between Howertown & 4th Street in Norhtampton is a small playground with a pavilion. Nobody is ever there and I doubt you have to reserve it (althought I'd hate to be wrong about this).

kristen said...

matt, i also thought of just hanging out and ixnay the food issue..N. Catty would be good because everything is more compact than Catty and with the Octoberfest issue we may lose some little ones..wouldnt want that, oh wait a minute, would we? The south catty playground is defunct, unless you would like to hop the airport fence that now surrounds the entire town..that may be good for a few laughs the only other place you may consider is down by the lake off of canal road (lehigh st) have a nice pavilion but nothing for the kids...my opinion at this late date is forget the chow and just hang out for a bit, tire the kids out for the sitters

kristen said...

on the other hand, if n. catty is book there's no telling what kind of crowd will be there...i know the place in northampton jeff is talking about, its decent, but dont you all remember how bad the smell is up there?

Sonya C said...

What about the park across the Pine Street bridge...is that considered West Catty?

mathbach said...

Darktown playground?

Sonya C said...

I don't know....
It's the park with the baseball field, little playground area, and pavilion. You can see the oil containers from it.....

kristen said...

yes, thats west catty park

mathbach said...

Kristen, i'd say location is your call. of the people in this discussion, you've got the best local playground knowledge.

at this point i don't think anybody wants to really take charge of organizing a full-on picnic. unless somebody objects lets just make it come as you are - already fed, OR bring some food for you and your family, OR bring some treats for all to share - whatevs. mostly we just need to pick a spot and make it known so people are certain of the plan.

like Kristen said, mostly the parents just want to tire out the kids so the sitters/grandparents have a pleasant evening.

kristen said...

well, i hate to make the call...i would prefer N. Catty, but if there is something there, like i said before, there is no telling how big the bash is...and 2) i'm not even sure about coming myself...i was just planning on showing up if we all felt like it and if not, not...friday nights are usually late one's after the game at my house, and i'm getting to old to do 2 full days in a row...

mathbach said...

is there any reason we couldn't meet at Scheckler for our pseudo-picnic?

kristen said...

the only thing that may be at sheckler is youth soccer, i know that is usually mornings, not sure about the afternoon...they were just supposed to have built a small pavilion with a couple tables dedicated to Mr Misko..he retired last year, but i havent been back there yet since then
